Domaine Chancelle

Domaine Chancelle is located on the pure limestone soils of Turquant, squeezed between the villages of Chinon and Saumur. The Domaine is made up of 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Chenin Blanc. Thierry runs the cellar which is directly under the vines in a limestone cave. Lydie looks after the vines, aiming to grow grapes with as little interference as possible. The domaine’s wines are known for their power and elegance and have a strong following within France. We first tasted their wines at L'Avant Comptoir in Paris and the sommelier suggested we seek them out.

2017 Domaine Chancelle Saumur-Champigny

Hand picked, de-stemmed to old wooden open fermenters. Natural fermentation with gentle extraction and very little movement. Pressed and aged in 4000l foudrés for twelve months. The domain makes Cabernet Franc which is fresh, elegant and refined. There is almost a Burgundian edge to these wines.
